Stoppage time goal gives Sockers one point at Mississippi

CLINTON, Miss. — A goal by Nate Coons in second half stoppage time was the equalizer that Midland/Odessa Sockers FC needed to head home with a big road point as they battled the Mississippi Brilla to a 1-1 tie on Saturday night at Traceway Park.
After a scoreless first half, Mississippi got on the board early on in the second half as Oscar Jimenez found the back of the net in the 48th minute to give the Brilla a 1-0 lead.
The Sockers' goal came in the 93rd minute, when Fernando Machado blasted a shot that was saved by Mississippi goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway, but Coons followed up on the rebound to punch it in as Sockers FC were able to come away with at least the one point on the night.
For Sockers FC, they remain atop the table in the Mid South Division with 21 points and four matches remaining in the regular season. Three of those matches will come against OKC Energy U23, as they are in second place in the Mid South Division with 19 points and five matches remaining in the regular season.
The next match for the Sockers will be at home on Saturday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Grande Communications Stadium against Saint Louis FC U23 (2-6-1, 7 pts). There will be fireworks following the match.
