Henrique's two goals lead Sockers to 2-1 win over Sol

ALBUQUERQUE  Two goals from Bruno Henrique helped Midland/Odessa Sockers FC overcome an early 1-0 deficit as they picked up a 2-1 win over Albuquerque Sol FC on Friday night at St. Pius X High School.

The Sol took an early advantage in the ninth minute as midfielder Ben Teasdale found the back of the net for the home team. The Sockers were unable to get clearance from in front of the goal and Teasdale was able to tap it in for the first goal of the contest.

In the 19th minute, the Sockers were able to come up with an equalizer on Henrique’s first goal that was assisted by Murilo Ceruli. 2015 All-PDL team selection Isaac Sanchez started the sequence as he played a ball across the field to Ceruli, who then played a hard ball across to Henrique and he was able to punch it in for the first goal of the season for the Sockers.

Towards the end of the first half, Henrique struck again for the Sockers as he received a pass from Jaakko Hietikko, turned the defender on the end of the box and chipped the goalkeeper for the eventual game-winner in the 44th minute.

Albuquerque played a man down for the majority of the contest as they received a red card in the 26th minute. The Sockers received a red card towards the end of the match with six minutes left. Possession was controlled by the Sockers throughout as they much of the game was played on the Albuquerque side of the field.

Sockers FC will remain in Albuquerque and take on the Sol once again on Sunday night at 7:15 p.m. CT. The first home matches of the Premier Development League season for the Sockers will be on May 26 and May 28 at 7:30 p.m. against the Mississippi Brilla at Grande Communications Stadium.
