Henrique's header puts Sockers back atop Mid South

MIDLAND  After playing well on Thursday night and not getting the result they wanted, Midland/Odessa Sockers FC came out on Saturday night, did more of the same and were able to get the result that they wanted with a 1-0 win over the Mississippi Brilla at Grande Communications Stadium.
With a strong wind at their backs in the first half, the Sockers (3-1-0, 9 pts) dominated possession as the speedy Randolph Tamba was on the attack with three of the team's seven first half shots. Sockers FC also gained an advantage in the 33rd minute when Brilla midfielder Ianis Ghachem drew his second yellow card and was disqualified from the match, forcing Mississippi (2-1-0, 6 pts) to play a man down the rest of the way.
The Sockers continued to put the pressure on at the start of the second half and it finally paid dividends on a corner kick in the 52nd minute. Midfielder Jade Mesias lofted a beautiful ball into the far side of the box for forward Bruno Henrique to head into the goal to give Sockers FC the 1-0 lead. For Henrique, it was his third goal of the season.
Even with the one goal advantage, the Sockers continued to put the pressure on as they tried to pad their lead. They were unable to do so, but came away with three big points and earned their way back atop the table in the PDL's Mid South Division.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Sockers as they will hit the road for two games against Saint Louis FC U23 (0-2-0, 0 pts) on Tuesday, May 31 and Thursday, June 2 at the Cooper Sports Complex in Springfield, Missouri.
