Jacobs Named Head Coach![]() Former Assistant to Lead Club in '20 Sockers FC today named Dave Jacobs the team’s new head coach. A familiar face… Jacobs served as assistant coach with Sockers FC in 2016 and 2017. Jacobs helped guide the club to its first ever National Final appearance in 2017. “I’m very excited for the opportunity to be the Sockers next head coach,” Jacobs said. “Being a part of the 2017 National Finalist team with Matt Barnes was one of my most memorable experiences as a coach.” The former assistant is also (and will remain) the head coach at Trine University in Angola, Indiana, where he guided the Thunder to the MIAA Tournament, marking the second time since joining the conference that the team has done so. In 2018, the Thunder made a repeat appearance in the conference tournament before falling to Adrian College in penalty kicks. Trine finished the season with a 13-3-2 record, its most victories since 2011. Jacobs owns a career 18-10-8 record (.611) at Trine. At Ancilla College, Jacobs led the Chargers to a semifinal appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Tournament. After an incredible 18-2 season in 2016, Jacobs was named MCCAA Coach of the Year. In two seasons at Ancilla, Jacobs finished with a coaching record of 30-5-2. As Sockers head coach, Jacobs plans to establish an attacking style of soccer. “We will play creative, attacking, and dominating soccer in the oppositions’ half as much as possible in a relentless and organized manner,” Jacobs said. “Our squad will be made up of players that want to play at the highest level possible. We want to see as many of them continue as professionals.” Jacobs graduated from Bethel College with a degree in General Studies in 2014. Dave and his wife Kara have two daughters– Olivia (15), and Ella (7). The Sockers also announced that Josh Logan will join the club as assistant coach. Logan serves as an assistant on Jacobs’ staff at Trine and played as a Central Defender for Stalybridge Celtic FC and Curzon Ashton FC. The Sockers enter their 12th season and their fourth as members of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). The club will be bidding for a fifth consecutive trip to the postseason, a run which has included appearances as a national semi-finalist (PDL, 2016) and finalist (NPSL, 2017). |
