HAWAII TO THE BIG APPLE TO SCOTLAND

Sockers FC head coach Matt Barnes’ first set of recruits came from California, Croatia and Brazil. The club today announced five additions to the roster and, again, the geography is “worldwide.”

The newest Sockers come from Hawaii, the Heartland, New York, Scotland and (again) Brazil. As was the case with the first group of recruits, all five are playing college soccer in the States.

Coach Barnes welcomed (goalkeeper) Tim Beauvais, (midfielder) Tanner Brock, (defender) Johnny Clifford, (forward/defender) Xavier Fuerte and (forward) Fabio Peña.

With their addition, the Sockers 2014 roster now stands at nine:

The Sockers open the 2014 Premier Development League season on Saturday, May 17, against the defending PDL champion Austin Aztex at Grande Communications Stadium.

FHS: 2013 First Team Daktronics All-Central Region and was All-MIAA Second Team … three assists … started all 20 games … Tigers finished with a # 23 national ranking, completing the school’s most successful soccer season

FHS: 2012 First Team Daktronics All-Central Region and was a unanimous All-MIAA First Team selection … started all 19 games and finished with 10 points (two goals and six assists)

FHS: 2011 Appeared in all 18 games (17 starts) with one assist

Johnny Clifford Defender Glasgow, Scotland Current Team Benedictine College (Atchison, Kansas) … NAIA … Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) … named to the HAAC All-Conference Team … scored one goal with one assist … Ravens won the HAAC title and advanced to the NAIA national tournament, reaching the round of 16 … has been named team captain for 2014 (his senior season)

Coach Barnes’ Comments “A Scotsman who will bring some good experience in the back line for the Sockers. At 6’2” and 195 pounds, Johnny brings some size but also has the ability to play out of the back. A bit of a gym rat and very passionate about the game. He has been a three-time All-Conference player and looks to reach All-American status his senior season.”

Current Team Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Prescott, Arizona) … NAIA … California Pacific Athletic Conference (Cal-Pac) Eagles won the Cal-Pac Conference championship, advancing to the NAIA national tournament (lost in round one) In his two seasons at Embry-Riddle, has averaged more than a point per game (20 G + 5 A = 45 TP in 35 games)
