Sockers win again!

The Mid-South division race has tightened up as the Sockers FC defeated the Houston Dutch Lions 1-0 Sunday evening improving the Sockers record to 6-3-2.

Ricardo Yeverino, assisted by Diego Cabral, scored the only goal of the game in the 8th minute of the match to give the Sockers FC a 1-0 victory.

Along with the Sockers win the Austin Aztex suffered their first loss to the Laredo Heat 1-0 on Saturday.  The Sockers now have 20pts in the Standings trailing the Aztex (7-1-1) who have 22.

The Laredo Heat (4-2-3)  are currently in 3rd place with 15 points.

This sets up a crucial match up between the Sockers and the Aztex this coming Saturday, July 5, 7:30pm at Grande Communication Stadium.  It will be the last home game of the regular season for the Sockers FC as they will wrap up the season on the road for their final two games to take on the Austin Aztex, and then the Houston Dutch Lions.

With the Aztex loss to the Heat, the playoff race has gotten interesting.  The Sockers have played 2 more games than both the Heat and the Aztex, therefore getting wins down the stretch will be key for the Sockers to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Saturday's matchup against the Aztex will feature a postgame fireworks extraveganza celebrating Independence Day as well as the Sockers FC final home game.  The game will be streamed live via youtube.
